Vale-Mark Chapman
Mark Chapman Vale 4th July 1956 – 14th June 2009 Mark Chapman sadly lost his 13 month battle with cancer (melanoma) on the 14th June 2009 not only has his passing left a huge hole in the dog community but those who knew and loved him on a personal level are struggling to come to terms with the loss of this lovable character. Mark started his love affair with Miniature and Standard Poodles in 1978 with his first Miniature “Frisky” coming from the RSPCA. His first Toy Poodle came from Mark was the breeder of the top producing Miniature Sire 1988-1990 Ch Luachra Bear Esentials, he joined forces with Louise Smith in the last few years with the Miniatures, they have gone onto produce many champions and he has placed the prefix in her very capable hands. Mark has concentrated in last few years on his love, the Toys titling many, he was also happy to give dogs to friends to title with the latest success being the white toy male Chapford Get Ya Rocks off “Denver” going Best In Show at the Poodle Club of NSW Inc Speciality Show this past Easter, Denver is owned in partnership with Julie Aspinall and resides with her in Melbourne, I don’t think there was a dry eye around the ring on this day for all of us as we knew Mark was living on borrowed time. Mark was my business partner for over 10 years when we decided to purchase a grooming business in Leumeah we had a great time working together everyday and throwing around ideas for our breeding programs, he was also my mentor and took me under his wing in the late 1990’s by giving me my first Miniature and Toy, I have gone onto to produce 7 champions (more on the way) all of which are from Mark’s breeding and all are multi in group and in show winners I am grateful to Mark for his help, advice and friendship and will continue his breeding to his exceptional high standard. Although Mark did not have any children of his own he was extremely close to my daughter, 14 year old Erin who he spent every day after school with and help her to hone her skills as a handler and groomer of the show dogs, Erin has been handling since she was 7 years old with a Best In Group under her belt at 10 and also In Show awards he was most proud when Erin would beat the adults especially me. Mark has been involved with The Poodle Club of NSW Inc and more recently The Toy Poodle Society of NSW Inc which he helped to resurrect in 2006, he was never scared to have an opinion if he felt it was for the good of his breed. Mark was never one to blow his own horn and has been the quiet achiever, a well respected breeder of the last 30 odd years with a keen eye for soundness and knew exactly what he liked. Mark was also been a keen gardener creating a lovely oasis in his front yard and helping all those around with advice some of us have great vegetable gardens due to his input, his collection of Maples being his great love. Mark was a wonderful person and sadly missed by those who truly loved him it was a great honour to have him in my life. RIP my dear friend. Julie Henville Elluje Poodles
