Classy Canine Dog & Cat Grooming Salon

Frequently Asked Question

Q. The last salon I took my dog to cut it very short, right to the skin.

A. Sometimes we don't have a choice how short your dog will be clipped, when they come in matted or very knotty we have to go under the knots with the clippers, which in most cases is to the skin. We can only work with what you give us.

Q. The last grooming salon I went to cut or knicked my dog, why?

A. In the job we are doing we are working with live animals and very sharp tools so accidents do sometimes happen, especially if the dog is not good to do and jumping all over the place or is in very bad condition, while we endeavour not to cut or knick your dog accidents can happen, but most of the time it is not the groomers fault a very neglected coat can be very hard to see where the matted coat ends and the skin starts this is especially true in the case of cats, they have skin like tissue paper.

Q. My dog scratches and chews all the time, why?

A. This can be a numbers of things, the most common is fleas, even one flea can drive a dog crazy who is not used to them, other factors can be what you are feeding your dog or it's environment even what shampoo you are using at home, have a look at our hints page for help on these matters.

Q. Can I wait while my dog is being clipped?

A. No, the reasons for this are, firstly we don't have the time to do every do individually we would be there until midnight every night if we did and secondly, it makes it harder for us to do your dog, like kids they are better behaved when their owners are not there.

Q. How often should my dog be clipped?

A. This all depends on the breed of dog but at the longest every 12 weeks, we recommend every 6-12 weeks this ensures you dog is in top condition.

Q. Why should my dog be clipped?

A. All hairy breeds of dogs should be clipped to be kept free of knots, a knotty dog is not healthy or comfortable. When a coat mats it twists tighter and tighter at the skin which will bruise the dog it also stops the skin from breathing freely, in extreme cases this could cause heat stress in the dog and in the very hot summer days prove fatal.

Q. How do I keep the knots out of my dog?

A. Always brush(with a slicker brush) and comb (with a metal comb) BEFORE  the bath and remove all knots, NEVER bath a knotty coat as the washing will only make it go tighter and tighter with every bath.

Q. My dog has a medical condition can it still be clipped or bathed?

A. We do a large number of dogs with medical conditions such as epilepsy, diabetes, hip dysplasia even blind and deaf dogs, as long as your vet gives you the ok and you had made us aware of your dogs condition we should have no problems, but it is ultimately the owners responsibility.

Q. Why did my dog cost more to do than you quoted me?

A. The quotes we give on the phone are an estimation only, we can't be 100% sure of the final cost until we see the condition your dogs coat is in ( the more matted it is the more it costs as it takes longer to do) and sometimes do your dog , if your dog has never been groomed before it may cost more as it has taken 2 of us to do it or it may be aggressive or difficult, it is the owners responsibility for the dogs behaviour not ours.

Q. Are you a mobile?

A. No we are not, you come to us.

Q. Do I need an appointment?

A. Yes you do, in some cases we maybe able to fit someone in on short notice but this is not always the case, just because you only have one little dog doesn't mean we can do it on the spot we may have another 35 other little dogs already.

Q. Why are my dogs nails so long?

A. A dogs nails should be cut on monthly basis this will help to get them shorter.
